Foreword Brings In New Director

Christopher Nesbit is the New Director of INDIES Book of the Year Awards

Early this month, Foreword welcomed a new team member, Christopher Nesbit, as director of the INDIES Book of the Year Awards program. Considered by many to be the most prestigious award exclusively for independently published books, the INDIES will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2023.

Married, father of two young children, and a native of northern Michigan, Nesbit arrives with a deep, diverse background in business strategy, marketing, and virtual event planning at organizations like TCNewTech, CMS North America, and Ace Virtual Events. In addition to his INDIES responsibilities, his exemplary media and communication skills stand to benefit Foreword’s magazine circulation numbers and social media initiatives.

Established to champion outstanding books from publishers not part of the Big Five media conglomerates, the INDIES takes judging to a level not seen amongst other awards competitions. The Foreword Reviews editorial team begins the initial process by choosing a short list of titles deserving of Finalist status. Next, those titles are moved along to teams of librarians and booksellers—all chosen for their expertise in selected genres—who are charged with making the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honorable Mention selections. All entries will also be considered for $1500 Editor’s Choice prizes in fiction and nonfiction. Each year, more than 2000 titles are entered across 55 genres.

Since 1998, Foreword has provided trade book reviews of the best titles from independent presses. In print, and online, its FOLIO award-winning design and editorial content makes the magazine a favorite among librarians, booksellers, and readers—an indispensable resource when it comes to purchasing books.
