Foreword Reviews is pleased to announce the final speaker lineup for Library Insights Summit (LIS), a day-long, pre-ALA event being held June 28, 2024, at the San Diego Convention Center.
In this second edition, rural and urban librarians devoted to building inclusive communities will serve as panelists, and their guidance will provide a template for publishers to work more successfully with libraries across North America. Book bans, metadata, distribution, ebooks, and collection development will also be discussed. Publishers and librarians alike will have ample opportunity to learn, network, and invest in their personal and business bottom line.
Keynote speakers include John Chrastka from EveryLibrary who will discuss Building Community Around the Culture of Reading. A luncheon keynote, AI and The Future Of Ideas, will feature Jared Schroeder, a professor from the University of Missouri School of Journalism and author of the forthcoming book The Structure of Ideas: Mapping a New Theory of Free Expression in the AI Era (Stanford University Press, July 1).
“The Library Insights Summit is a great opportunity to learn, collaborate, and create relationships between publishers and librarians. I am looking forward to participating in this year’s incredible event, to explore new concepts and address different issues, notes speaker Skip Dye, SVP, Library Sales/Marketing at Penguin Random House.
In addition to keynotes, the day’s programming will include sessions on working better with librarian wholesalers and distributors, best practices for pitching books to libraries, working through the banned-book challenges, understanding diversity using the same lens as a librarian when it comes to collection development, and more.
“The success of last year’s program confirmed the demand for an in-person event that is conveniently tied to an industry meetup and is dedicated to building community between librarians and publishers,” shared Victoria Sutherland, Publisher/Founder of Foreword. “We built a program with a talented speaker list that is valuable not only to publishing professionals of every size, but veteran and upcoming librarians hoping to glean fresh insights about their profession.”
Following the program, an afterglow will provide participants and speakers an opportunity to network further. The American Library Association’s Annual Conference Opening General Session begins immediately after at 4pm, while the Exhibits Opening Reception starts at 5:30 and runs until 7pm. Attendees to LIS will have access passes to the exhibit hall during the entire ALA Annual Conference.
Library Insights Summit is a ticketed event and registration is open at the American Library Association’s Annual Conference website. Program fees of $199 include lunch, refreshments, afterglow, as well as the passes to the ALA exhibits area for the weekend.
