This wide variety of books covers the fields of art, photography, archaeology, architecture, conservation, and the humanities for both the general public and specialists.”
An Interview with Publisher Kara Kirk
At the time of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty’s death in 1976, few could have predicted that the art museum that now bears his name would have a publishing arm with its Virtual Library. But that’s one of the first things created by Getty Publications Publisher Kara Kirk when she came on board about three years ago.
Are your books always related to art in Getty’s collections? While many of our books feature artwork in the museum’s collection or in the GRI’s special collections, which comprise a vast array of archives, manuscripts, rare books, prints, and photographs, we also publish books relating to exhibitions, programs, research projects, and other activities and interests of all of the programs.
