Lama Rinzen is reborn into the Hungry Ghost Realm. She is reborn to learn what the Buddha means when he speaks about Emptiness. The lama does not believe in ghosts. Even if they do exist, she doubts they could teach her anything. Except how can she learn without believing in her teachers? How can the lama gain insight by failing to see what she denies? Is this what the Buddha means by Emptiness? This way we hide from ourselves and refuse to see what we are too afraid to admit?
