A Star Shines Through

Inspired by the author’s experience emigrating from Russia with her family after the outbreak of the war on Ukraine, this thoughtful picture book speaks to children during uncertain times. A girl relocates to a sparse apartment in an unfamiliar country with her mother; she muses on a star-shaped lamp that used to sit in their window, guiding her home. After her mother fashions a new lamp, the girl finds things feel a little less different—even if they can never be the same.
