Adventure Guide to Northern California
At first, Adventure Guide to Northern California seems like just another travel guide in the median cost range of other travel guides to the same local areas of Northern California, with the same key points featured. But on second, closer scrutiny, this guide is better—quite possibly because of authors Lee Foster and Mary Lou Janson, seasoned travel writers who inject personalization and professionalism. Northern California is the most diverse, complex area with everything you could ever do on a vacation (or retirement). You could realistically swim, sail, waterski or boat in the Pacific Ocean during the day, drive three to four hours, and ski on the mountain slopes of Yosemite and camp out the night—all within 24 hours. Tourist attractions range from the well-known Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco, to the many original missions and museums, famous wineries in Napa and Sonoma Counties, and the ever majestic Yosemite Valley. But the authors take you to lesser known attractions and possibilities—even railroading and ballooning.
The amount of information packed gorgeously into 380, 5’’ x 8’’ pages is well indexed, outlined and cross referenced. The illustrated maps are far superior than the ones offered by most travel guides, and full-color pictures balance the information properly. Biking, boating, hiking, sightseeing, what to see, do and where to go and eat are all covered succinctly. Climate, culture, flora, fauna, government and economy are also summarized.
If Northern California, from the Oregon Border to Big Sur and Fresno, is an area you would like to discover and explore, this Hunter Travel Guide is the one to buy—you won’t need any others.
