Comeback Evolution

Selected Works of Walter K. Delbridge

His talent unmistakable from the earliest days, Walter K. Delbridge was sidetracked by the civil rights movement, Vietnam draft, schizophrenia, and institutionalization—though his recovery was never a question, even while he labored in isolation and the poems piled up. In 2017, Oxford University Press published a few of his new works, and at seventy-five, a book-filled apartment in Akron keeps him company.

Sonics

Here comes the sonic boom
Rash of crash of blue window glass
Stained church windows splinter to pagan
Disorganization
Vibration registration on the sensitive skin
Red rashes of clashes on grating nerves
A gentleman’s momentary loss of verve
A swerve of car over the railing
Caught by shock
The surprise chaosing eye and hand
Mellow pulling along of an Amish wagon
The mounting ranting of angered citizenry
Over the trembling ceiling goes roar
The deaf mute thinks the day’s a bore.
