I Want 100 Dogs
Bold black lines cut through tonal blues, pastel yellows, and orange accents in this charming picture book about parent-child negotiations. A little girl asks for 100 dogs; “But where would 100 dogs sleep?” her father replies. So begins a series of descending dogs and counterpoints, the illustrations following along with every disastrous potential outcome. In the end, the family settles on adding just one member, but who truly won the battle of wills remains an open question.
