Tell This to the Universe
In whatever she does on the page, Katie Prince practices a subtle, omnipresent cadence of syllables so physically pleasing as to cause a blush. Linguistics, science fiction, philosophy, grief—polymathematician at ease—in this debut collection, she wants you to walk away a wiser reader. An MFA grad from North Carolina, Wilmington, her work has appeared in New South, Fugue, Poetry Northwest, and other journals.
DRINKING ON THE PORCH WITH A FELLOW RECLUSE
after Li Powe drink as dusk shrinks to dark, the bushes buzz,
mosquitos hum. azalea blossoms to the right, fallen
and trampled by wildlife: squirrels, a small dog.
we laugh, lights blur. skeletons sway in the breeze.
I fall into thought, wander off. you don’t even hear me leave.
