The Horse, the Stars, and the Road

Sonny’s class is supposed to bring in their favorite objects from home for show and tell, but all the cool things his classmates bring make Sonny a little embarrassed of his life as a member of the Irish Travellers. Then his uncle Jim takes him along to the horse fair in a horse-drawn caravan, telling Sonny stories and teaching him Traveller traditions like tinsmithing and navigating by the stars, generating excitement about sharing one’s heritage with others.
