An exploration of prejudice, set against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to 1964, through the eyes of a 12-year-old white Catholic girl, a young black Baptist woman who leaves Mississippi for Chicago as part of the Great Migration, and a Jewish Freedom Summer volunteer from New York City.
