The Last Whaler

THE LAST WHALER follows Tor Handeland, a beluga whaler, and his wife, Astrid, a botanist specializing in Arctic flora, stranded during the winter of 1937-38 at his remote whaling station on Svalbard. The couple must cope with the dangers of violent storms. bitter cold, and polar bears in a fight for survival. The novel is a meditation on the resilience of the human spirit, the abiding power of love and remembrance, and the fragile threads that connect us to each other and to our environment.
